section title: Alternatives Analysis
Overview

Between 2001 and 2003, the Sacramento Regional Transit District (RT), in cooperation with the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), performed an Alternatives Analysis (AA) to evaluate future transit improvements in the Downtown/Natomas/Airport (DNA) Corridor in Sacramento, California. Consistent with FTA’s New Starts guidelines, the AA process was a coordinated effort between RT, members of the public, public agencies, and other stakeholders with numerous opportunities for input at each stage in the planning process.

The AA Report compared and evaluated alternate transit technologies and alignments through the DNA Corridor. The AA technical analysis and associated public review and responses were designed to support and encourage the process for adopting a locally preferred alterative (LPA) to be carried forward for a full environmental review.

In 2003, the RT Board considered the AA results and chose light rail along an alignment generally following 7th Street and Truxel Road as the locally preferred alternative.
