Study Area & Description

The study area for the DNA Corridor is about 13 miles in length from downtown Sacramento to the Sacramento International Airport.

  • The study area for the DNA Corridor includes most of downtown Sacramento, South Natomas, North Natomas, Metro Air Park and the entire Sacramento International Airport property. The southern boundary of the study area for transit improvements is the Sacramento Valley Station. For environmental analysis and travel demand modeling purposes, a larger portion of downtown was analyzed. The expanded southern boundary follows R Street (west of 11th Street), N Street and Capitol Avenue between 15th Street to Alhambra Boulevard. The eastern boundary is bounded by the Natomas East Main Drainage Canal, Route 160, Business 80 and Alhambra Boulevard. Elkhorn Boulevard serves as the Northern boundary of the study area, with the exception of the section of Airport property that is bounded to the north by Elverta Road. The western boundary of the study area includes the western edge of Airport property, Bayou Slough, Power Line Road, Del Paso Road, the Natomas West Main Drainage Canal, the Natomas Main Drainage Canal and the Sacramento River.

  • Several different alignments were examined during the Alternatives Analysis study. The alignment for the Locally Preferred Alternative (LPA) selected in December 2003 starts in downtown Sacramento and passes the Amtrak Station and through the Railyards area. The alignment continues north through South Natomas and into North Natomas, passing the Arco Arena to reach the North Natomas Town Center. At the Town Center, the alignment shifts to the west and continues northwest to the Metro Air Park development and the Sacramento International Airport.
